Children of the Mekong
Children of the Mekong is a registered NGO in Thailand that has been acting in South East Asia (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Myanmar and Yunnan) since 1958. Its mission is to allow the poorest children access to education. Even if school is free children still need to pay for their books, pencils, uniforms, and eventually transportation. Today nearly 22 000 children are sponsored. 80 projects such as school constructions, foster homes or school extensions are financed a year. They are also 10 education centers in Philippines and Cambodia who allow children to have extra classes after school or university. Out of all the sponsored children 20% are hosted in education centers of foster homes.
